SHINE

This journal is full of blank pages, which will be filled by Moochers.

“Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some; it is in everyone. And, as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. “
– Nelson Mandela

My Personal Journal – Patty Harrison

I’d like to send out a blank journal and ask people to fill it in and have it returned to me. Game?

Favorite road trips

I started this journal for everyone to record their favorite places, moments, etc of roadtrips they’ve been on. Use as many pages as you like. Use pictures, art, stories, anything you like as long as it’s about or happened on a road trip. If anyone out there puts something rated X in it, please include that in the condition notes. Not that I would mind a little more excitement in my life. hehe

The Fly On the Wall

Sit yourself down in a public place; this project is easier if you are alone. You are going to eavesdrop on the people around you and record their conversations. Let’s face it – we all do this anyway; it’s inevitable in a group setting. The only difference is this time you’re recording it for posterity.

If your recording is incoherent because you had to use shorthand, or it is hastily scribbled and messy, ‘translate’ it so that we will know what was said before sending on the journal.
You learn the most interesting things about people this way!

Creepy Girl, Creepy Girl (school photos, regrettable eyewear, robots in love, or what have you)

This journal opens to my school photo from 1968. I’m wearing cat’s-eye glasses and a pea-green neon-striped mini-dress my Mom sewed for me. I was stylin’ and baby, I knew it.

The title is inspired by my favorite MST3K episode based on the 1967 movie Catalina Caper (aka Never Steal Anything Wet) starring Tommy Kirk, wherein Tom Servo falls in love with the new girl on the beach and sings a little song about her (”Creepy girl, creepy girl . . .”)

“Thank you, Tommy Kirk, for making us laugh at life—and love—again.”

Mythic Menagerie (Birthday Books Vol 1 of 41)

What Wildness lives in the mythic menagerie? Whatever animals, legendary, real or imagined, clutter your consciousness… free them here! Animal-esque Art. Mermaids and centaurs and sparrows and catapillars that frolic in an enchanted glade or crawl out from the closet… let them seep into these pages.

When the pages of our zoo are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.

RE: Birthday Books vol 1-41. I was very excited to read about the bookmooch journal project as I usually celebrate my birthday with art/performance art madness related to the number in question. In August I will be a delightful 41 years wild. I have purchased 41 blank journals and am giving each individual themes. When all the wayward art has winged its way home to me, I look forward to a local celebration to share and enjoy these books with friends.

She said… (Birthday Books Vol 16 of 41)

Include your favorite quotation by a woman. Any topic. Any woman. Illustrate it if you’d like. Collage, calligraphy, doodle, cartography, in the style of luminous biblical script, hieroglyphs, photographs, in the style of a ransom note with letters ripped from magazines? Limited only by your imagination. When the pages of this journal are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.

Into the mouth of desire (Birthday Books Vol 5 of 41)

Said after a particularly inspired expletive: “Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?” It’s amazing what that mouth might do. Singing, kissing, frown, smirk, laugh, bite, yawn, whisper, howl, yodel, gargle, spit and repeat. The single most expressive part of the body even without saying a word. Fill this art journal with visceral, visual imagery of mouths and lips and teeth. I’m thinking human but maybe a crocodile smile a-muse-s you. When the pages of this journal are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.
