Mermaids (Birthday Books Vol 9 of 41)

Gotta love those fishy femmes. Fill in the blanks with aquatic fillies, selkies, kelpies, naiads, water nymphs, mermaids and sirens. When the pages of this journal are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.

RE: Birthday Books vol 1-41. I was very excited to read about the bookmooch journal project as I usually celebrate my birthday with art/performance art madness related to the number in question. In August I will be a delightful 41 years wild. I have purchased 41 blank journals and am giving each individual themes. When all the wayward art has winged its way home to me, I look forward to a local celebration to share and enjoy these books with friends.

Contact High

This is (well, it was until now) a Japanese children’s book, full of wonderfully expressive, minimalist drawings of a couple of pandas. I’m asking people to ignore the Japanese writing completely (or work with it, or around it – there’s not a lot of it, really) and to add their own thoughts, poems, stories, or drawings to the the pictures in the book. It’s as you like with this one.

Sacred Spaces (Birthday Books Vol 37 of 41)

This is meant to be part art journal, part travel book. In the modern world, ancient temples and monuments are often lost or in ruins. Still we crave –and therefore find or create– sacred spaces. In oregon (where this book is starting) Portland pagans dance around a copper stag in a park and leave offering at the collasus style statue of the city’s invented Goddess, Portlandia. A few hours south, there is a natural rock formation in the form of a 40 ft phallus that locals have dubbed “cock rock” and where lovers leave mementos or initials. A few hours North on I-5 is a replica of Stonehenge. What modern artifice or natural wonder has inspired your spirit or that of your community?

Queering History (what if…) (Birthday Books Vol 31 of 41)

What if the Mayflower had been filled with pilgrims of another kind, fleeing persecution of a different kind and colony’s first invasion of “settlers” were building a brave new queer world? What if Santa were gay? Or Dracula? What if Jesus were a lesbian? Imagine an event or person and change history. Invent new gayer holidays, religions, countys, customs. What if… you let your crazy queer imagination out of the box?

When the pages of this journal are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.

Karma, Dharma & Enlightenment~ exploring universal patterns and mysteries of life

The Law of Karma – Karma is both action and the consequence of that action; it is cause and effect simultaneously, because every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in kind. Everyone had heard the expression, “What you sow is what you reap.” Obviously, if we want to create happiness in our lives, we must learn to sow the seeds of happiness. Therefore, karma implies the action of conscious choice-making. Whether you like it or not, everything that is happening at this moment is a result of the choices you’ve made in the past. Unfortunately, a lot of us make choices unconsciously, and therefore we don’t think they are choices–and yet, they are. If you step back for a moment and witness the choices you are making as you make those choices, then in just this act of witnessing, you take the whole process from the unconscious realm into the conscious realm. This procedure of conscious choice-making and witnessing is very empowering. You can use the Law of Karma to create money and affluence, and the flow of all good things to you, any time you want. But first, you must become consciously aware that your future is generated by the choices you are making in every moment of your life. If you do this on a regular basis, then you are making full use of this law. The more you bring your choices into the level of your conscious awareness, the more you will make those choices which are spontaneously correct–both for you and those around you.
