Architectural Majesty

Architecture is the art and science of designing and constructing buildings and other physical structures. It is the creation of our habitat, our businesses, our homes. It is also an art, and every architect an artist. This journal is a celebration of that artist.

What’s your favorite building? Do you like stretching skyscrapers or crumbling castles? Colonnade or promenade? Are you blown away by the New York City skyline or the pyramids at Giza? What’s your favored architectural style? Tudor or Edwardian? Perhaps Gothic?

Whether you’ve always wanted to play architect or simply admire the work of others, this journal welcomes you!

The Spider Sketchbook

Part art project, part nature journal and for some of you, part therapy, this book may require you to be very brave indeed. If you are still interested, read on… It’s simple – find one spider, capture it, draw it, try to identify it, and then release it. To carry out this task you will have to really LOOK at your spider. Visit your local library or use the internet for tips on catching spiders and identifying them. You will be amazed at the variety and beauty of spiders (I hope!), and you may learn to overcome a long held fear. And none of this “I can’t draw” nonsense! If you can hold a pencil, you can draw. I didn’t know I could draw until I started my spider notebook. The aim is to observe your spider well enough to sketch it and note its features. Use pen, pencil, pastels or paints. I’ve included some of my own sketches to get you started and to introduce you to some of my favourites, such as the spitting spider, a slow moving creature which pins down its prey with a zig-zagged jet of sticky glue, and the almost day-glo green, orb-web spinning cucumber spider. Any takers? (If you can’t face it but you know someone who’ll give it a go, mooch it for them). -Laura

Make it what you want

Make it what you want. This journal has ivory-coloured lined pages designed to be easy on the eyes and conducive to writing. If you want to draw on unlined paper, you will need to glue your pictures in. There is a pocket at the front and a rigid back cover. This is the first journal I have created for sharing with the rest of the BookMooch world. This journal is being tracked on the yahoo group BMJournalers. Please join this group if you intend to mooch this journal, and post to the group as well as placing the journal in your inventory once you have made your contribution to the journal. The usual timeframe for making an entry in a travelling journal is up to two weeks, then send it on to the next lucky moocher. Have fun with this! Cheers, jael

Nudescapes and Body Architecture (Birthday Books Vol 11 of 41)

This art journal is devoted to exploration, celebration of the human form. When the pages of this journal are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.

RE: Birthday Books vol 1-41. I was very excited to read about the bookmooch journal project as I usually celebrate my birthday with art/performance art madness related to the number in question. In August I will be a delightful 41 years wild. I have purchased 41 blank journals and am giving each individual themes. When all the wayward art has winged its way home to me, I look forward to a local celebration to share and enjoy these books with friends.

What’s Has It Gots in its Pocketses? (Birthday Books Vol 39 of 41)

In the style of interactive children’s books, each page will have a working pocket made by the artist with whatever materials strike their fancy. And inside the pockets? Mmmmm who knows what it has in its pockets?

When the pages of this journal are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.

Adopt, Adapt, and Improve

This is a chain of inspiration captured in a single volume. You will take your inspiration from the person who previously had the journal, and re-imagine their creation or theme in your own way.

Adopt the previous work of art.
Adapt it to your own style.

Improve it, by adding elements of your own, removing what you don’t like, twisting the theme entirely, or whatever you’d like. Let’s see just where this motto of the Round Table takes us.
