There’s nowt as queer as folks

There is an old North of England saying “There’s nowt as queer as folks” which I remember from a headmistress who came to my London high school from Huddersfield. It uses the old dialect word nowt, (opposite owt = anything) meaning nothing. Another saying reflecting the same sentiment is “Truth is stranger than fiction”, and it is pften true that things which happen would be disbelieved in a fictional book!
It makes me think of the many, varied strange local customs of the British isles. SInce coming to live in Wales, we have encountered a whole raft of new ones!
Share the weird and wacky doings with which you are familiar in this journal.

Please keep no more than two weeks and add it to your inventory using the number shown here, or click Mooched on your home page and click Give to the right of the journal name. If you may forget to relist, then do it when you receive it and reserve it for yourself for up to 2 weeks! It is such a shame when series get broken – so check your requester is a current friend of the Bookmooch Journal Library Charity, and if they are not ask them to apply to become a friend. Only constant defaulters will be barred.

I only use a small number of pages at a time to keep postage down, but feel free to use as many as you want! Please contact me when the journal is full and I will add more pages, or if it needs repairing.

Pirates and buccaneers

Pirates and buccaneers are favourite characters for many children.
We had a lovely series about Welsh pirates – Black Bart was my younger
son’s favourite.
Whether you hanker after a parrot to sit on your shoulder shouting “Pieces of eight” and having a hook instead of a hand, or a peg-leg and an eyepatch; or are interested in the history behind piracy, or have a tale to tell of modern-day piracy in the Indian ocean or off the coast of East Africa, or are a big fan of “Pirates of the Caribbean” share it with all the journallers!

Please keep no more than two weeks and add it to your inventory using the number shown here, or click Mooched on your home page and click Give to the right of the journal name. If you may forget to relist, then do it when you receive it and reserve it for yourself for up to 2 weeks! Tickets please! – film

This is a BookMooch journal, the second in a “tickets please!” series. This journal varies slightly in format from other BM journals in that while contributors should not alter other journallers’ contributions, they are encouraged to comment on them. For example, in this “film” journal, please contribute a ticket stub and then comment on the film. If when you receive this journal someone else has contributed about a film you’ve seen (the odds are reasonably high) or in a cinema you’ve attended (the odds must be pretty remote!), then please comment on that. Please, however, do not deface or alter someone else’s contribution.

Tickets please! – music of all sorts

This is a BookMooch journal, the first in a “tickets please!” series. This journal varies slightly in format from other BM journals in that while contributors should not alter other journallers’ contributions, they are encouraged to comment on them.
For example, in this “music of all sorts” journal, please contribute a concert ticket or entry band and then comment on the event. If when you receive this journal someone else has contributed about a concert that you actually attended (the odds are very slight) or for a group you’ve seen (better odds) or at a venue you’ve attended (the odds must be better still!), then please comment on that event’s page. Please also feel free to comment if someone else has been lucky enough to attend an event you’ve always wanted to go to! Please, however, do not deface or alter someone else’s contribution.
This journal has been created by Jacquie Clegg-Hullah (BMid jacquiegatine) who retains right of ownership.
Please relist the journal within two weeks of receipt, and whilst being prepared to send onwards promptly, only accept requests for journals from friends of the Journal Library. If your moocher is unknown to you, please check that they understand what journalling is and will keep the journals circulating.

ff is for…

I decided to create a new series of alphabetic journals when I found that quite a few of the original series are missing. Since I live in Wales where some English letters are redundant, but a number of extras are used I decided to include the Welsh sounds!
They may be more of a challenge to illustrate – some never come at the beginning even of Wesh words!
Any pictures, words, drawings beginning* with the given letter are fine. I am putting few pages in to keep them initially light for posting, and I will mooch back and add more pages and put a weight with the review date each time to give an indication for moochers. * I should have said using the given letters!
Please keep no more than two weeks and add it to your inventory using the number shown here, or click Mooched on your home page and click Give to the right of the journal name. If you may forget to relist, then do it when you receive it and reserve it for yourself for up to 2 weeks! F for ‘vescence

I decided to create this new series of alphabetic journals when I found that quite a few of the original series are missing. This became the sixth new one created. I have used the versions of the cockney alphabet familiar to both Mark and me from our childhoods in London.

Cold As Ice volume two

This book is a follow up to k00kaburra’s BMJournal: Cold As Ice which was completed and returned to her in 2010. It is a “celebration of chilling, cooling color! Every image or word written here must be in the palette of winter – blue, green, deep shadowy purples, you get the idea! – whether it be a collage or cohesive image.
Everything ice is perfectly nice here! Set your frosty fingers to work and see what you create!
I hope it will be as attractive when finished as the first volume was reputed to be. It never got to me although I had requested it when told it was full, so after a long gap I have decided to start book 2 myself!
Please relist ONLY on Bookmooch and keep for no more than two weeks before relisting. Only send to journallers with the bmjl logo in their friends list. Slow journals can be requested to be mooched by your local BM library shelf if stuck for three months. Please don’t mooch when you have no time to make an entry or are moving etc.. Journals should be enjoyed by all.
