Grimoire, book of shadows or whatever you choose to call it, witches ancient and modern, real or imagined have been keeping magickal diaries forever. Why? For the very reason that secrets are made to be shared. Share your favorite mystical recipes. No eye of newt, please. The modern witch’s ingredients might be gathered by moonlight from her own garden but more likely can be picked up cheaply at the neighborhood grocery. I was raised with the admonition “a witch who cannot curse cannot cure” alongside the more traditional “and it harm none, do what you will” so feel free to include the voodoo doll kit for a stingy boss or itchy feet curse for the ex-boyfriend as well as dream magick and candle-burning for world peace. We witches are very versatile. Strict no no’s: morbid evil fantasies, dungeon and dragons-isms, satanism (Satan is a Christian entity, think about it) or “repent diatribes”. This is of, for, and by witches (and wannabe witches and modern witch enthusiasts!)

RE: Birthday Books vol 1-41. I was very excited to read about the bookmooch journal project as I usually celebrate my birthday with art/performance art madness related to the number in question. In August I will be a delightful 41 years wild. I have purchased 41 blank journals and am giving each individual themes. When all the wayward art has winged its way home to me, I look forward to a local celebration to share and enjoy these books with friends.

This special BookMooch journal is a journal for the purpose of recording our stories of surviving the Zombie War. It is bound together with a copy of Max Brooks’ excellent oral history, World War Z for reading and reference purposes.
Today, every man, woman, and child alive carries within them such a tale of life-testing encounters. Preserving these stories is a task that we can undertake for future generations, and gives hope to the present.
Whether you choose to contribute your story in written or artistic form, I’m confident that you will give voice to your own experiences and stories.
This BookMooch Journal asks the question that every person has an answer for:
How did you survive the Zombie Wars?
When you have finished reading the book and journal, please re-add it to the BookMooch system so that another survivor can mooch it and carry the legacy forward. Please try to do this within two to three weeks, or post a comment to here to let the book owner know about the delay.

If you grew up as a groupie of Wonder Woman, She-hulk, Scarlet Witch, Lady Death, Catwoman, batgirl, (remember “Oh Mighty Isis?), Elektra you know the allure of the amazon superhero. Or maybe you have fan devotion to real-life heroic women Maya Angelou, Frida Kahlo, Golda Meier, Emma Goldman, etc. This is a revolution you can dance to. Honor your S/heros here. Or create your own supershero– what’s your power, your mission, your secret identity? When the pages of this journal are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.

The image of a Unicorn is inspiring. Let it inspire you to reverence, irreverence or anything relevant to unicorns. Art, humor, short poetry/flash fiction, scholarly essay, or a list of your favorite unicorn movies or a quotation from your favorite unicorn book. When the pages of this journal are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.

This is meant as an experiential tome rather than a how-to magick book. The idea is that the book itself IS magic. Art and play. Word/unword. Think outside the box. Live in the margins. Invent. Advise. Intuit. Worship. Dance in paper. See the movie “Prospero’s books” for inspiration.

Irreverent, irregular, indecent but iridescent. If you’re a fan of naughty fairies (whether that’s in the style of Brian Froud’s Good Fairies/Bad Fairies or the Froud illustrated/Terry Jones written LADY COTTINGTON’S PRESSED FAIRY BOOK or the ever-popular erotic comic books like “Bondage Fairies”) then you know just how FUN naughty faeries can be. Get fey. Get carried away. When the pages of this journal are filled, please return it to bookmooch user: zenfish. Thank you.

Red, red, red. Nothing but red. Art in red. Draw in Red. Collage in Red. All things redness. Red-y, set, art!

This is a journal belonging to a middle-aged, outgoing, female Japanese librarian from a backwoods apple-producing town who has a fairly basic level of English ability, and she wants to know what people are like when they’ve been drinking. Brilliant. I couldn’t make this stuff up. So, can you tell the story (pictures also welcome) of the adventures you’ve had when you’ve been drinking, in fairly simple English? Rise to the challenge! Show us what you’ve been up to after hours!
(PS. Nothing will excite Teiko to learn English more than a good, juicy story. Don’t feel too constricted by the “simple” English limitation – just write clearly and try not to use very complicated or flowery sentences. And seriously, have fun.)

Dangermouse, Mighty Mouse, Speedy Gonzales, the musical mice in Disney’s Cinderella, Pinky and the Brain… ok, even that big-eared guy that hangs out with the squeaky voiced duck.
