Here's how you make homemade ice cream, recycle old coffee cans, and make fun for the kiddies.

First: Mix up whatever flavor you want to make your ice cream. Take about 1 1/2 cups of milk, add a little sugar and some crushed fruit, or make chocolate or strawberry milk, or even add one of the flavored creamers to the milk.

Second: Mix them in the smaller coffee can, put the lid on, use tape around the lid to seal. Then put a little ice in the bottom of the bigger coffee can, put the smaller can inside the bigger one, put ice around the can... when it's full, add a little salt, seal the bigger can and tape that lid, too.

Now for the fun part:

Third: Have 2 kids sit on the floor, and roll the can back and forth. After about 5 minutes open the big can, dump the ice in a bucket, open the little can and stir the contents... Seal it back up, and tape again. Put some of the left over ice back in the big can, enough that you can still put the smaller can in it, Now put ice around the smaller can, seal and return it to the kids. Let them roll it back and forth for another 5 minutes, open, stir again... repeat, until ice cream is ready to eat.

For slightly older kids and grand kids use half gallon containers in 5 gallon buckets. Or, use your own imagination!!

Comment on Time Capsule by bookmoochjournals

Hi James, Our primary site is Bookmooch http://www.bookmooch.com/ which has had to be taken down for repairs and remedial action. I am not an employee there - it is John Buckman's site run as a free site for book 'exchange' (books for points, points for books not necessarily, in fact rarely, direct swaps).
I run the journal site http://bookmoochjournals.com/the-journals/ as a volunteer the third person since it was set up. Bookmoochers can also exchange journals there under a different set of rules - they remain the property of their creator, are returned to them when full, and successive entries are made by journallers who request them.
We have nearly 900 journal library friends in 48 countries: USA, Canada, Martinique, Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, French Polynesia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Israel, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, Eire, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, the Ukraine and the Russian Federation. A good proportion of these are active journallers so journals travel widely, although the US and secondly the UK and Israel are the most frequent places to send.
As the voluntary site maintainer I now list the journals that all journallers create with the assistance of 6 shelf-holders spread worldwide. We also try to recover temporarily stalled and lost journals to put back into circulation through the library inventory.
Time capsule is not one of my own journals although I think it will be an extremely popular one once Bookmooch is running again. I can only display messages there from Bookmooch members. I wish I knew more about Wordpress. Only your message today that made me go "Ah, the messages have to be sent through Bookmooch" made me realise that others may wonder why I do not reply to their comments. Mainly the comments here have been "awesome" or "great idea" but I have had no way of saying "Join Bookmooch and become of our journallers then!" If you know how I can - please tell me!
We library personnel also upload slideshows of as many journals as we can. Until March these were displayed through the journal site which uses Wordpress. Then slide.com gave us about a fortnight to recover the 586 slideshows (my predecessor and I had uploaded) as they were closing.
We are now using Photobucket and uploading the slideshows directly to the individual Bookmooch page for each journal we do, which can be accessed through the blue underlined phrase on the journal site (when BM is up and running that is!) So get the word out and come and join in the fun there! The Wordpress page http://bookmoochjournals.com/about/ will give you some further info and there is also a journal Bookmooch Wiki through one's home page on Bookmooch.
